Zanzoo Retreat is quite close to Cairns and its surrounding attractions. Driving times are:

• Cairns City and airports: 20 minutes
• Port Douglas: 50 minutes
• Woolworths supermarket and shopping centre: 5 minutes
• Cairns Beaches: 15 minutes
• Daintree Rainforest: 1.5 hours
• Skyrail and Kuranda Train: 10 minutes
• Atherton Tablelands: 1 hour

Having your own car will allow you freedom of movement, as well as allowing you to take advantage of the many fantastic self drive touring options available within the region.

Two Day Itinerary

Day 1: Take a state of the art wave piercing catamaran to the outer Great Barrier Reef where you can snorkel, scuba dive and view the magnificent marine life in a semi submersible. Alternatively you can see the reef from the air and fly to or from the reef aboard a helicopter. Then back to Zanzoo Retreat to freshen up before dining at the local pub, The Red Beret or at one of the many fine restaurants nearby at Freshwater, Stratford or Cairns.

Day 2: All aboard!! for the scenic rail journey to Kuranda aboard the historic Kuranda Scenic Railway. See the magnificent Barron Falls, mountain streams and tropical rainforest as you climb the mountain to the village in the rainforest, Kuranda. Enjoy a stroll through the Kuranda markets and choose between a visit to Birdworld, the Butterfly Sanctuary or Rainforestation, where you can pat a Koala throw a boomerang and see a crocodile.

Return to the plains aboard the award winning Skyrail Rainforest Cableway. Travel above the rainforest canopy in virtual silence and experience a different and exhilarating view of this world heritage listed area. The 7.5km journey is broken by 2 stops featuring boardwalks and viewing platforms. Take a guided tour with a park ranger who will educate you about the flora and fauna. After arriving at Caravonica you may like to visit Tjapukai Aboriginal Cultural Park and learn more about the world’s oldest indigenous culture. Alternatively you can take a Hot Air Balloon flight over the Tablelands in the early morning instead of the train and then take Skyrail back down the mountain.

Then it is back to Zanzoo Retreat for a well earned swim and cold drink before once again choosing where to dine that evening.

Day 2: Take advantage of your hire car and take a journey of discovery to the beautiful Atherton Tablelands. Visit the heritage villages such as Yungaburra and Ravenshoe and go for a dip in the crater lake at Lake Eacham. Have lunch overlooking the picturesque Lake Barrine and then drive through the rolling hills and do the waterfall circuit visiting waterfalls such as the Malanda, Millaa Millaa and Josephine Falls.

Visit the heritage listed Paronella Park before traveling home to Zanzoo Retreat where you can prepare yourself a meal or get in some takeaway before settling in at home and watching a movie on the cable TV.
